Under the theme of ‘The Power to Move’ Canon’s 4 600m2 stand (8A/B41-1 – B41-8) will simulate real-world operations and end-to-end production solutions, which combine the OEM’s workflow productivity solutions, print media and presses with the pre- and post-processing equipment of more than 10 technology partners.
Fanning out from ‘The Core’ – a multi-sensory exploration of print’s emotional impact and how imaging experiences can enrich lives and businesses – Canon’s technologies will be arranged by industry segment: commercial print, publishing (including books), promotional communications (including direct mail and retail), labels and packaging, interior décor, as well as inhouse and CAD printing.
A first for drupa, Canon will demonstrate its commitment to becoming a significant, trusted partner to the corrugated, folding carton and labelling markets, demonstrating live production of various applications.
- Curated corrugates. PSPs interested in digital printing on corrugated board can see live production of packaging prototypes and short-run promotional packaging on Canon’s large format Arizona and Colorado printers. Additionally, a UVgel Print Factory – comprising a Colorado M-series roll-to-roll printer, a Fotoba Jumbo Roll JRL 170 feeder and JRR 170 Rewinder – will demonstrate how digital printing on liner material for later lamination to a corrugated base can create a high-quality printed alternative to conventional litho lamination.
Canon will also introduce its concept for a sheetfed single-pass, industrial-scale digital corrugated press utilising a 3D model, print samples and technology animations of the system.
- Carton connections. Since its acquisition of Edale in 2022, Canon has started establishing a presence in the folding carton market. At drupa, an inline folding carton production process will be shown, taking pre-printed reels that will be embellished live on the Edale FL5 single-pass carton production line, adding either cold foil, cast and cure or varnish. The carton will then move inline to the Edale FDC600 flatbed die cutter for cutting, creasing, braille/embossing and waste stripping, ultimately delivering finished carton blanks in a single pass.
Folding carton print samples digitally printed on Canon presses, such as the toner-based imagePRESS V1350 and the varioPRINT iX3200 sheetfed inkjet press, will also be available.
- Streamlined labelling. Canon’s industrial-scale, water-based digital inkjet label press called the LabelStream LS2000 will produce self-adhesive labels on paper and film media, which are then ready for varnishing, die-cutting and slitting on a nearline converting device from Grafisk Maskinfabrik.
The LabelStream LS2000, on show for the first time outside of Japan, prints CMYK plus white with a food safety standard compliant inkset.
