The accreditation, granted by European certification body DNV, recognises MetPac-SA’s quality management systems in the design, implementation and management of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) strategies for the circularity of post-consumer metal packaging, excluding 210-litre drums and pesticide aerosols.
ISO 9001:2015 is the world’s most recognised standard for quality management systems. Achieving this certification underscores MetPac-SA’s ability to consistently deliver services that meet both member expectations and South Africa’s EPR regulatory requirements, while embedding governance, risk management and continual improvement throughout its operations.
‘Being awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification is a proud and defining moment for MetPac-SA,’ says MetPac-SA CEO Dr Kishan Singh. ‘It reflects our commitment to governance, accountability and operational excellence, and assures members and stakeholders that we are delivering on our mandate with world-class systems in place. As the first PRO in South Africa to achieve this, we’ve set a new industry benchmark and hope to inspire greater trust, credibility and collaboration across the value chain.’
Frank Roon, lead auditor at DNV, adds: ‘MetPac-SA has demonstrated impressive dedication to a robust quality management system. This certification highlights their professionalism, governance capability and commitment to driving continual improvement in support of a sustainable, circular economy for metal packaging in South Africa.’
The milestone is also a testament to the MetPac-SA team, with special recognition to Inflynite (Pty) Ltd, the consulting firm that pioneered the EPR ISO 9001:2015 system, as well as Dr Ravi Nadar, research analyst, and Rishant Harichunder, operations manager, for their critical contributions.
By achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, MetPac-SA reinforces its leadership role in advancing metal packaging circularity, while demonstrating excellence, transparency and accountability in managing its members’ EPR obligations.
