Sophiscticated production technologies unlock the realm of design possibilities for brand owners and designers of pressure-sensitive labels. On increasingly crowded retail shelves, this packaging element plays a critical role in catching buyers’ attention. Cape Town-based pressure-sensitive label production specialist, Lebone Paarl Labels, offers customers across South Africa access to modern UV flexo self-adhesive and digital printing and finishing facilities to ensure their labels spotlight their brands effectively.
‘Label manufacture and the labelling process are highly technical areas with many aspects to consider; each market and product has its own set of requirements in terms of performance and compliance,’ explains Henk Jacobs, general manager of Lebone Paarl Labels. ‘Our ongoing investment in the latest label printing technology positions us as one of South Africa’s premium label suppliers, meeting each customer’s particular requirements,’ he comments.
‘Our fleet of modern UV flexo presses with inline finishing is highly efficient for longer print runs of commercial labels, while our HP Indigo WS 6800 digital press is well suited but not limited to shorter runs and labels requiring variable elements,’ he adds.
‘HP’s Indigo Smartstream software allows customers to generate virtually unlimited variations of a seed pattern or combinations of basic elements. Brand owners can leverage this capability, making each label individually unique, without impacting productivity, for irresistible shelf-appeal and maximum customer interactivity.’
A recent update to Lebone Paarl Labels’ digital production technology is the inclusion of HP Silver ElectroInk. ‘Printing metallic colours is no longer limited to flexo printing as we can produce any metallic colour by digitally printing process colours over the silver,’ Henk continues. ‘This benefits our customers who want digital printing flexibility while saving on additional finishing costs without compromising on metallic effects for a higher-end look.’
The HP Indigo digital press offers seven on-press ink stations to cater for CMYK plus metallic finishes and white for sleeves. The superior liquid ElectroInk technology makes it the only digital colour printing process that matches gravure printing. For customers who wish to include additional finishes on their digitally-printed labels for their premium brands, Lebone Paarl Labels’ versatile ABG Digicon digital finishing line implements hot foiling, embossing/debossing, high-build screen varnish, die-cutting and slitting in a single pass.
‘To ensure 100% accuracy of every label we produce, we have also installed the latest TubeScan Nyquist digital strobe ++,’ Henk adds. ‘This offers 100% label inspection and detection of all print defects, colour deviations. It also ensures accurate label counts – mandatory for pharmaceutical industry compliance.’ Every label printed at Lebone Paarl Labels is subjected to this process to ensure customers enjoy 100% inspection all the time.
‘We will continue to push the boundaries of technology to raise the bar in label production to ensure we deliver exceptional quality pressure-sensitive labels – consistently and reliably – to spotlight our customers’ brands,’ Henk sums up.
Ed’s note: Just as the world went into coronavirus lockdown, PPM published a profile of Lebone Paarl Labels, included as a supplement to the March edition. Reference was made to a forthcoming in-house demonstration of the company’s latest digital printing and finishing expertise, with a resultant insert to be included with the April issue to illustrate the amazing achievements of HP’s Smartstream software in the production of individualised labels. PPM now makes good on that promise!
