The Woolworths Laundry Pods (16s and 24s) won the PAMSA Paper is Possible Award and a silver in the Household Product Packaging category. ‘Our success came from combining technical precision with purposeful design, from flawless colour control and clean finishes to strong, reliable structures,’ says Andrea Naicker, Magnum’s marketing director. ‘Each project reflects our focus on getting every detail right, from print quality to sustainability, which ultimately sets our work apart.’
The Woolworths Laundry Pods carton is made from fully recycled laminated E-flute board. Each pack features a pressure-lock lid, tamper-proof base and precise alignment, marrying recyclability with retail-ready durability. ‘We were guided by our customers’ needs: premium brand presence for Woolworths,’ Andrea explains. ‘The technical approach was shaped by the demand for strong structures, accurate colour and sustainable materials – all areas where Magnum strives to excel.’ The team’s careful attention to laminating, hand-glued construction and locking features ensured the packs were visually appealing and practically resilient.
The Café Enrista 10s and 20s pack earned a bronze in the Non-Alcoholic Beverages category. The carton’s sturdy structure, in-register die cutting and multi-depth embossing create a tactile and visual impact. Gloss UV contrasts with matt finishes, while a precision machine-glued crash-lock base ensures the pack stands firm, showcasing both design and engineering ingenuity. Andrea notes: ‘Enrista was all about bold shelf impact. We wanted the design to tell a story, one that complements the product and elevates the brand.’
The project presented numerous challenges, including colour consistency, complex structures and tight timelines. Using advanced press automation, the IntelliTrax colour control system and hands-on quality processes, Magnum achieved consistent results. Sustainability was also central: water-based varnishes, fully recyclable materials and locally sourced boards allowed the company to use eco-conscious packaging practices without sacrificing style or strength.
For Andrea and the Magnum team, the awards confirm that deliberate design, technical mastery and a commitment to sustainability can coexist effectively. ‘These awards validate the care, skill and intention we put into every job,’ Andrea reflects.
