Across the halls of Fira de Barcelona, industry heavyweights Baumer hhs, Berhalter, Blumer Maschinenbau AG, Apex International, AVT, BOBST, GM Grafisk Maskinfabrik and Heaford drew constant crowds, unveiling new technologies that blend automation, accuracy and sustainability in equal measure.

Together, they reflected current trends in modern converting – where precision meets productivity and creativity meets control. Whether it was Baumer’s breakthrough digital braille system, Berhalter’s robotic die cutting, Blumer’s high-speed punching innovation, BOBST’s multilayer digital printing developments, GM’s tool-free embellishment innovation or Heaford’s new plate-mounting technology, each brand delivered a clear message: the future of label and packaging production is running faster and smarter than ever, supported by Beswick Machinery’s global partnerships.

Apex on top

APEX INTERNATIONAL presented its advanced anilox and embossing solutions aligned with the show’s core themes of automation, AI and reduced waste.

From its Knowledge Centre near the Automation Arena to live demos of laser-engraved dry embossing technology that eliminates water and chemical waste, Apex demonstrated how smart, connected systems are driving flexible packaging forward, highlighting its pioneering approach at this future-focused event.

AVT’s Helios a hit

AVT drew attention at Labelexpo with its enhanced Helios print inspection platforms, revealing new Core, Turbo and Ultra options for data-driven 100% inspection.

A high point was the new Varnish Inspection module, capable of detecting defects in clear coatings with precision. Emphasising AI-powered automation and real-time data intelligence, AVT also introduced a bold customer-first strategy featuring reduced spare parts pricing, underscoring its commitment to smarter production, eco-consciousness and strengthened customer partnerships.

Baumer’s digital braille

BAUMER hhs had a successful Labelexpo, attracting significant interest in its digital braille printing solutions, which it presented along with the associated Xtend3 controller.

The Xdot system, which applies durable, tactile braille digitally, captured attention as a significant development for pharmaceutical packaging, meeting EN ISO 17351 standards and supporting the industry’s growing demand for accessibility and compliance. The strong visitor engagement demonstrated a clear industry need for efficient, precision solutions for legible and legally compliant labelling.

A punch above

BLUMER MASCHINENBAU AG unveiled the upgraded ATLAS-1110 DUAL, a fully automatic label punching and banding machine that transforms flexibility and performance.

Featuring faster setup, automatic calibration, advanced colour sensors and next-gen 2025 motor technology, it provides precision and speed across paper, film and IML label applications. Operable with or without counter-pressure, the ATLAS-1110 DUAL excels in both large and small runs, delivering reliability and efficiency in one compact, high-performance solution.

BOBST advances multilayer solutions

BOBST debuted its FLEXJET module, an industry-first, fully digital multilayer label printing solution.

Integrated into the DIGITAL MASTER 340 and 510 platforms, FLEXJET enables inline, single-pass printing on front, back, liner or adhesive surfaces, boosting efficiency, reducing waste and opening high-margin application opportunities.

Over 1 300 BOBST installations worldwide underscore the technology’s broad adoption, while new application management services and a partnership with Co-ëfficiënt offer converters expert guidance on materials, workflow optimisation and sustainability.

GM’s tool-free finishing

GM GRAFISK MASKINFABRIK showcased its intelligent label solutions, focusing on automation, circularity and advanced functionality.

The company’s largest-ever stand featured cutting-edge finishing, including multi-foiling and embossing in a single pass through collaborations with Foilco and Dreyer, and the industry-first DVM350 Digital Varnish Module for tool-free digital embellishments. Under the theme ‘From Finishing to Functionality’, GM demonstrated interactive labels and high-end finishing options, offering converters new approaches to create profitable, trendsetting labels that connect with both supply chains and consumers.

Heaford goes hybrid

HEAFORD exhibited the latest in plate mounting technology, featuring digital vision upgrades designed to enhance operator workflow and productivity.

Focusing on themes of automation, AI-driven interfaces and environmental performance, Heaford demonstrated its commitment to new approaches in prepress operations, offering solutions for existing plate mounters while supporting converters transitioning into digital and hybrid workflows.
