PRO-PRINT, a Durban-based paper and board packaging converting business that primarily serves the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, homoeopathic and beauty markets, has replaced an old platesetter with a CRON G+ Series UVP computer-to-plate (CtP) system, which includes a five cassette autoloader and three punch options, to improve the output rate and quality of the images on its plates.

‘We have always had two platesetters due to the number of presses we need to make plates for, and the Cron UVP-4648G+ model, which has 48 diodes processes and punches 22 plates/hour, fits in perfectly with our existing UV platesetter thanks to its compact and efficient construction, which is very beneficial in the limited space available. It also ensures the peace of mind of a smooth workflow because it utilises the same UV processes,’ remarks MD Yvette Roberts.

‘This has been our first purchase and installation with TAD Printing Products and both Adrian Gildenhuys (director) and Patrick Krieling (technical sales representative) have been very diligent and thorough throughout the negotiations, purchase, delivery and installation,’ Yvette states. ‘The installation was very professionally done in April 2021, and our staff were very happy with the training received on the new equipment. After-sales support has been excellent, with no query too big or small to be resolved.’

Adrian notes that CRON has perfected UV exposure to provide dot quality equivalent to thermal imaging. ‘The G+ UVP is an updated and enhanced version of CRON’s popular model G, benefitting from the addition of automation features, improved stability and increased flexibility to add on autoloaders, punching and multi-direction transport bridges. High-resolution dot reproduction ensures superior imaging as well as reduced waste, while the low level of maintenance means the G+ series is the most cost-effective CtP available today.’

He adds G+ series models feature the latest generation lasers and liquid cooling to ensure maximum reliability with fast throughput. The units can be operated as a manual load or combined with an automatic plate loader for up to 500 sheets, providing a fast and convenient flow of plates for the majority of printing applications from A3 to VLF.

The G+ series models are compatible with all CRON Autoloaders and Bridges, and can also be fitted with optional integrated internal punching and optional external punching provided by the CRON multi-directional bridge (BGP), enabling straight or L-shaped system configurations that save space and reduce processor costs.
