Proudly included in the historic milestones in this 55 years of research are the development of oxygen bleaching (1970), the development of the world’s most secure passport paper used in the South African passports (2009), the use of enzymes to control extractives in a sulphite mill (2013) and, most recently, the production of dissolving pulp from Eucalypts using the pre-hydrolysis kraft process.
Recently the Sappi Technology Centre opened its doors and extended the analytical services of the skilled and dedicated staff and well-equipped, accredited testing laboratories to external clients.
The Paper and Box Testing Laboratory at the centre is equipped to conduct a wide range of ISO and TAPPI paper and paperboard tests, as well as proprietary specialised in-house tests developed over the years of experience in paper and paperboard testing.
The Technology Centre also has a long history of service to South Africa’s citrus industry providing Box Compression Strength measurements (BCT) for clients.
A brochure and price list is available on the Sappi website (www.sappi.com).
