Typical grammages for coldset printing are 48 to 60g/m2, and the company boasts 16-page and 32-page Goss Community presses for full four-colour printing.
A number of tasks have been scheduled for this year, one being the automation of inserting using an EasySert system from Ferag – a necessary step owing to pressure on existing operations and the growing volume of supplements and inserts.
According to GM Ernst Venzke, EasySert is the only inserting system on the market that can meet his company’s specific requirements, pointing to two-page inserts with a grammage of only 48g/m2. Such grammages are a special challenge for the hoppers of any inserting system.
High net output at low grammages
To solve the problem, Ferag has carried out slight modifications to the EasySert system, allowing high net outputs even with low grammage inserts.
The Newsprint Namibia management team watched practical demonstrations at Ferag’s Swiss headquarters to see how EasySert copes with the task – even when handling single-page flyers – yet still achieves a net output of 19 000 copies/hour. As grammages and paginations increase, EasySert comes closer and closer to its maximum 30 000 copies/hour speed.
As part of the modular EasySert concept, Newsprint Namibia has opted for an inserting system for 4-in-1 production.
Key components for getting the most out of the inserting system are the JetFeeder hoppers that are relatively insensitive to format and grammage and can be quickly reset with just a few manual adjustments.
Thanks to the operating concept, it promises to be a problem-free start in automatic inserting at DMH, where they’re confident that EasySert will form the basis for further automation in the mailroom.
