EFFICIENCY AND SERVICE BREED SUCCESS

The company’s Pinetown (KZN) premises incorporate a technology showroom plus a fully equipped service, repair and spare parts centre, and the company has dedicated sales agents in the four main centres – Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

‘We’re a small team of specialised individuals and take a personal interest in every customer. That’s the secret to our success,’ confirms Martin.

When founded, MJH focused on the supply of quality engineering and CNC machines for production and toolrooms. ‘We started out very small with a focus on personal service and support,’ Martin continues. ‘Today, tooling and production equipment remain at the heart of our business, but there’s been a technological revolution, which means we now predominantly supply CNC equipment.’

On offer from MJH are Taiwanese-made CNC machines from companies such as C-tek, Akira Seiki, Microcut, Matech, Perfect, You ji and Yida. Each brand features flat-bed lathes, slant-bed lathes, PC-based milling machines, vertical and horizontal machining centres, ZNC and CNC spark eroders, wire cut EDM and surface grinders – all locally supported with spares from MJH.

Energy-saving injection moulding

For the last eight years, MJH has partnered with Haixing, a leading Chinese vendor of injection moulding systems. The plastics manufacturing arena is rapidly evolving and MJH understands and promotes the benefits of Haixing’s energy-saving servo-driven machines, available from 580kN to 16 000kN clamping force, offering models from 88- to 168-ton capacity, ex-stock. According to Martin, Haixing machines reduce power consumption by up to 70%, compared to hydraulic systems.

‘Power and water savings alone give a return on investment within two years or less!’ he declares.

Features include a double-cylinder balance injection system, multi-stage pressure and speed injection, high-speed clamping and low pressure mould protection. A fully-automated control system makes for easy start-up and operation.

MJH has already commissioned 160 Haixing machines in South Africa, with service and technical support provided every step of the way. ‘With electricity costs escalating, servo-driven machines are beginning to replace hydraulic-powered systems altogether,’ explains Martin. ‘Converters are seeing the benefits of upgrading with these systems.’

‘Brett Shelley, our technician, spent two years in Asia learning the Haixing business culture and technology. Now he completes installations, repairs and training on any Haixing model countrywide.’

Customer support

Long-term customer relationships, developed through trust and consistent delivery, also contribute to MJH’s ongoing success.

‘Our strength lies in our combined staff expertise and technical support,’ states Martin. ‘Each employee has a real understanding of the machines and services we provide and is well trained in his or her field. We’re a customer-orientated business and every project is handled in a personal, friendly and confidential manner by internal and external staff members’ he adds.

There’s a host of well-established customers in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, but MJH is constantly establishing new business contacts.  Taking part in industry-specific exhibitions gives the company good exposure and provides excellent opportunities for the sales team to demonstrate CNC technologies as well as the Haixing injection moulders.

MJH’s customers in the packaging sector commonly operate multi-system sites, incorporating tool making, blow moulding and injection moulding.

‘With various machine sizes available, we can provide something for everyone in packaging and beyond,’ states Martin. ‘Our 88-ton injection moulder is value for money and ideal for start-up enterprises. We’ve got micro-business owners manufacturing all manner of products from closures to golf pegs on these machines!’ he exclaims. ‘The larger Haixing systems are ideal for the mass production of preforms, caps and closures, and several customers are already realising massive energy savings compared to previous hydraulic systems,’ he concludes.
