A wealth of expertise and modern technology provides the cornerstone for the design and production of world-class packaging for top brands in the food and beverage, cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceutical and home care sectors.
If you ask CEO, Eric Smith, what makes the company unique, he replies that it’s ‘people and technology’.
With a proven track record and a reputation for innovation and top-quality products, and an award-winning service recognised by blue chip customers such as Revlon, Johnson & Johnson and Colgate Palmolive, Eric certainly knows what he’s talking about!
Lapack’s qualified and experienced designers, tool makers and sales professionals understand the complex nature of the industries they serve; and from the company’s 12 000m2 production facility, these experts make use of precision-built equipment to produce quality products every time.
It’s all about a ‘can-do’ approach and personal service with a ‘partnership’ attitude and attention to detail. ‘Value for money packaging solutions at non-negotiable quality standards, delivered on time – that’s what Lapack is all about,’ Eric declares. ‘We appreciate that every customer is different and we strive to exceed expectations in terms of quality, design, cost-effectiveness and just-in-time delivery.’
As well as exclusive original designs, Lapack offers a comprehensive range of standard bottles, jars and closures – a customer can simply walk into the well-stocked showroom to choose a suitable top-quality pack directly off the shelf.
The company also supports an ongoing new product development programme. ‘We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with customers in the design, trial and production of packaging that contributes to a product’s competitive edge,’ Eric adds.
The creative design team works hand-in-hand with customers to mould original products using the most up-to-date graphic design programmes, while the national sales team, headed up by Cheryl Tiley, provides informed advice on packaging and printing solutions to meet brand owners’ objectives.
From pencil to product
The latest software supports Lapack’s design studio, where graphic designers visualise ideas into images to offer striking on-shelf appeal and competitive advantages for customers’ brands.
Top-quality moulds are manufactured in Lapack’s in-house tool shop using the latest CNC technology, and 3D designs are machined directly into the mould by drip-feeding the CNC machinery. This cuts cost and time and ensures a quality product is delivered first time.
In terms of production, Lapack’s 450 employees work three shifts a day, seven days a week, using state-of-the-art equipment to manufacture quality products from 20ml to 2,5-litres.
‘Our 156 converting machines and presses are operated by qualified personnel who have a broad understanding of our industry,’ states Eric. ‘Production equipment includes blow moulding and injection blow moulding for PP, HDPE and PET packaging and our battery of 20 Aoki machines works around the clock.’
And when it comes to product decoration, Lapack has a sound reputation for quality, thanks to its in-house multicolour Kamann UV printers and specialised label applicators, which can apply full wraparound labels as well as front and back labels. Quality control is not an end-of-line function – it’s a work ethic throughout the company, ensuring that every product leaves in tip-top condition. Testing and quality checks are undertaken at each production point and each team member takes pride in his or her contribution to producing a superior product and delivering true customer satisfaction.
Plastic containers and closures produced at Lapack are distributed countrywide and throughout Africa by the company’s own drivers and every attention is given to product care and storage during transportation.
As Eric sums up: ‘At Lapack, we never compromise on quality and we always go the extra mile.’
