Everest Flexibles’ engineering staff removed a high-maintenance hydraulic pack on a Schiavi slitter and replaced it with an electric motor-powered actuator, which produces faster reaction times and more reliable guiding. They also replaced the sensor (eye) with the CLS Pro 600 CCD colour sensor, which has a display controller that can be mounted anywhere on the machine, so the machine operator can view exactly how the sensor is tracking.
‘We had a very old hydraulic unit which had started to cause extensive downtime for maintenance and repairs,’ remarks Sunil Patel, engineering manager at Everest Flexibles. ‘The new equipment means no breakdowns or maintenance periods, so we’re now working much more productively and the system is very user friendly,’ he adds.
The CLS Pro 600 is an innovative concept consisting of a high-resolution CCD colour sensor, a clearly arranged backlit colour display, optimum image processing as well as high-performance LEDs. Altogether, the CLS Pro 600 offers features to ensure perfect control results even in the case of poor contrasts. With its colour sensor, the system precisely scans continuous or broken lines, print edges or web edges and the integral automatically-controlled LEDs, which also offer extremely long service life, constantly provide optimum lighting, ensuring excellent web guiding results.
Using a special lens with high photosensitivity, BST’s CLS Pro 600 is extremely dependable even at high web speeds. Thanks to its broad measuring range of 25mm, contrasts are detected even in the case of major splice offset.
The sensor is networked with other BST components using CAN bus; and, whenstarting a new job, its basic functions can be remotely controlled using CLS Pro 600, which expedites the workflow. Using the integrated USB interface, parameters are swiftly and conveniently transmitted to the user‘s system or to other cameras if necessary.
Easy and flexible operation
When developing the CLS Pro 600, BST International not only focused on technological features, but also had user requirements in mind. On the colour display, all messages and data are clearly shown and can be easily read.
The menu interface is variable so that the user may individually define the most important functions that can be called up at the push of a button.
The system is controlled using a keyboard installed on a guide ring for up to 180° rotation. In order to adjust the keyboard to the camera mounting position, rotation in increments of 90° is available. The keyboard may be removed and connected at a central point if needed,eg when the sensor is installed at an inaccessible position.. A special laser line projection on to the material allows for easier positioning and precise adjustment of the CLS Pro 600.
‘The CLS Pro 600 system is being installed worldwide, leaving machine operators in good spirits. There’s a suitable solution for any type of machine and the installation is straightforward. It can even be carried out by some customers themselves,’ remarks Russell Muller, Sareltech sales manager.
As well as flexible packaging, BST inspection equipment is suitable for paper, board and sack converting operations. The Sareltech team is fully versed on the complete BST range and welcome enquiries regarding BST solutions.
