ExtraPET PCR is the latest addition to Camvac’s ExtraPET film range and forms part of the company’s growing sustainable solutions for the packaging of fresh and prepared produce.
According to marketing manager Dan Collins, this development aims to reduce the use of fossil feedstocks, lessen plastic waste and material going to landfill and support recycling streams with improved waste collection where the infrastructure exists.
‘The film, which uses a minimum of 60% food-contact approved PCR grade webs, is an ideal sustainable alternative to virgin PET films due to its similar characteristics, barrier performance and visual appearance,’ he asserts.
It still provides an all-PET structure and maintains Camvac’s high gas barrier performance. Available in either peel or weld seal laminate structures, Dan explains that the mono-material lidding film has been designed to offer excellent sealing properties and barrier performance, protecting the produce packaged within.
‘ExtraPET provides a variety of environmentally friendly and atmosphere packaging solutions in peel and weld seal, anti-fog, and high-barrier options,’ adds development director Gary Chalkley.
The peelable ExtraPET PCR is available as a 12/20µm PET laminate structure, while the weld seal is available as a 12/15µm PET laminate structure.
According to Gary, ExtraPET provides the ideal solution for switching products currently packed in multi-polymer tray and lidding film combinations to 100% PET film and tray solutions, creating a complete mono-material packaging solution.
PCR-grade PET barrier films help replace multi-polymer tray and lidding film combinations with easier to recycle mono-material alternatives.”
Local representative, Amotz Golan of AGQPE, reveals that the film is available in South Africa. ‘Following an initial presentation to local packaging gurus, we are excited to present ExtraPET PCR recyclable film to our existing and potential customers because it has received such positive global feedback as an environmentally friendly lidding alternative. We look forward to generating the same positive sentiments in the South African market.’
As Camvac continues to develop more sustainable packaging, AGQPE’s portfolio of film and tray options increases to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly packaging in the South African market.
